AT HOME WITH STEPH SMITH

Based on the beautiful Gold Coast, we spoke with Steph Smith about what mindfulness and self care means to her. As a content creator and mother of two gorgeous children, Steph ensures she does what she can to remain present in each moment and makes time for herself to recharge & reflect on each day.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Steph and I live on the beautiful Gold Coast with my husband and 2 kids Daisy and Ziggy. I am currently a stay at home mum and do content creation on the side.

Q: What does mindful living mean to you?

Trying to be present in the daily things I do, particularly with kids. It is so easy to let each day be consumed by entertaining the kids and wish the day away. I always reflect on the day and think of what I can do better.

Q: Can you describe your daily self care routine? Are there any specific rituals you never skip?

I try to make time everyday to take care of my hair and skin, that makes me feel good on the outside. As for the inside I spend 30 minutes each week day doing some exercise at home or going for a walk.

Q: How do you stay mindful during particularly stressful or busy periods?

I start with prioritising what is important and what can wait. Also being organised. For example school mornings are always chaotic so I get as much as I can ready the night before to make the morning easier and to get where we need to be on time.

Q: You are known for your beautiful style which you have shared through the renovation of your home on the Gold Coast. How does your living environment impact wellbeing and does this influence your design choices?

Being a family with small kids we wanted to design the house to be practical and simple. We created an open plan living so we can all do our own things in the same space. The kitchen, living, outdoor patio and pool is all connected so I can cook and do the things I want to do and the kids can do their activities in the same area. I also wanted a place for everything. For example toy storage, shoe draws, plenty of storage in kitchen and laundry. My motto is if it doesn’t fit in those areas, it needs a cull.

Q: Are there any new self-care practices or mindfulness techniques you’re interested in exploring?

I would love to get back into yoga and try meditation.
